Using a standard 52-card deck, players place bets on their poker hands. A winning hand is one that holds all of the chips in the pot. This could be a straight, a flush, or a royal flush.
A player may play several rounds of betting before they reach the showdown. The flop, turn, and river are each set of three cards. A poker hand only reaches the showdown when a caller is all-in before the final round of betting.
A poker hand consists of five cards: two of a kind, three of a kind, a pair, a flush, or a royal. The highest-ranking card in the deck is the kicker. The kicker is the highest-ranking card in any high-card hand.
A poker hand can also consist of four of a kind and two pairs. A pair is two cards of the same suit. A hand with a pair is the best possible hand at the time. In addition, a hand can contain three cards of different suits.
A poker hand can also include a gutshot, or a straight completed from inside. A gutshot is half as likely to hit as an open-ended straight.
A pair of aces is considered a low-value hand. A pair of deuces is considered a wild card. A poker hand can be made from a combination of five cards from the player’s hand and five cards from the community cards.
A badugi dealer is similar to a traditional dealer, except that the dealer issues four cards instead of five. A badugi dealer starts with the first draw round, and then ends with the final draw.
