The basic rules of poker vary slightly between variants, but all involve one or more betting intervals. At the start of each round, the first player to act places an ante into the pot. Then, each player acts in turn. In most cases, you must place a bet that is at least equal to the amount of money placed in the pot by the player before you. You can also check, which means that you do not want to place a bet but are still eligible for future hands.
When it is your turn, you can say “call” to match the amount that the player before you bet or raise. You can also say “raise” to increase the amount you bet by an amount that is greater than the previous raise or call.
