The Basics of Poker

After everyone is dealt 2 cards, there will be a round of betting. This is initiated by 2 mandatory bets called blinds put into the pot by the players to the left of the dealer. Once the players are done betting, 1 more card is dealt face up. This is known as the flop.
If you have a strong hand, such as pocket kings or queens, you can raise on the flop to protect your hand. If you don’t have a good hand, you can fold or call to keep the betting going. Having position is important in poker because it gives you more information about your opponents’ hands and makes it easier to bluff.
