When the flop is dealt each player in the hand has a chance to bet/check/raise or fold. Once this betting interval is over the dealer puts a fourth card on the table that anyone can use, called the turn.
In some games the dealer will place a fifth card on the board, which is known as the river. After this final betting hand if more than one player is still in the hand then they all show their hands.
Position is very important in poker! It gives you more information about your opponents and allows you to make better value bets.
It also lets you play a wider range of hands, which is important when making big bluffs. A tight range of strong and playable hands is a great way to disguise the strength of your actual hand and make it difficult for others to see.
